			My Pet Goat - Happy Meals?

	Happy Meals?
	One of my more unfortunate habits is occasionally eating at McDonald's. Anyhow, they have "boy" and "girl" toys with their kids' meals, which make interesting statements. Currently, they have "spy gear" for boys and troll dolls for girls. Here are some comments from the "boy" side of the Happy Meal box. "Your motion sensor detected a rival spy!" "You've hacked into the enemy's computer!" "Fuzzy radio signal!" "You've tripped a security beam!" Here are some comments from the "girl" side. "OMG! You and your friend wore the same dress to the party!" "You got a new 'do" "Curling iron burnt out!" "Your purse is 2 cool!" Yeah, like I really needed more reasons to stay away from McDonald's.

Yeah, I just found this pretty distasteful, even in the context of ... well, being at McDonalds.

I try not to stop there, but at least my son at age 3 can't read this sexist stuff :(

Yeah, given that it doesn't exactly have the healthiest food, I probably shouldn't have been eating there in the first place. Oh well, an additional reminder to stay away. Did you ever see "Supersize Me?"

It's a well known fact that all boys are geeks and all girls are incredibly dim and only think about horses and shoes.

barbie purse for boy

Yes, in a case of mistaken identity, my 3 year old son got the plastic barbie doll purse a few months back. It was funny how annoyed I was. I hadn't realized how blatant the stereotyping is until we got the girl toy. Though I'm not sure if I'm more irritated at the dual toys concept, or at the fact that my boy really wanted to play with it yet it broke very quickly.

Yeah, the boy toy might have been just as junky as the plastic Barbie purse. :)

My first experience with the "for a boy or girl?" happy meal this weekend

I have been ordering Happy Meals every few months for years. Just this weekend at the drive through they asked me "is the Happy Meal for a boy or a girl". It caught me by surprise and I said a boy. Next time I am going to say "neither, a hermaphrodite".

As I have been ordering Happy Meals for a while and I never encountered this question before, I was surprised to find out that there are posts on this going back for years.

well im a guy and all the spy things and the hidden cameras (http://www.spy-equipment-buying-guide.com) and all, i dig it. But yea, for girls, i understand your feelings about their "toys" and ads.
